Transmission - sleeve notes

<Transmission Starts>

Hello you.

Somehow, <Dusk> was a very appropriate title for our last album. We seemed to get caught up in the throes of midwinter, and managed to leave off most of the pop. But that was nearly five years ago, so what have we been doing in the meantime? Have we dragged ourselves out of our autumnal gloom?

Well, yes. You see, things were different then.

In fact, the story of this album begins way back in 2003. It was late summer, and we were sat in Simon's flat in Birmingham. He picked up a guitar, and together we wrote Golden Wheel in a matter of hours, before largely forgetting about it. A little over seven years later I would receive Almost in my inbox, and suddenly all the murky recordings which we had been tweaking for years seemed to form into an album.

Such a long period of development may not have helped the quality of this album much, but a lot has happened in the last five years. In addition to Birmingham, it has its roots in Derbyshire, Berlin, West Yorkshire, Hampshire and Los Angeles. It follows a very long and wiggly path from naïvety to world weariness, and it takes its influence from an extremely wide and esoteric range of sources.

So where does this get us in the end? Have we learnt the harsh lessons which the past forced upon us?

Well, maybe. Almost.
